Fitness Competition after Pregnancy!

Tips to Competing in a Bikini Competition after Pregnancy

I am so excited to share my experience and tips for competing in a fitness competition after having 4 children! This month I competed in my very first bikini competition and immediately I was hooked! I have to admit, in the weeks leading up to the show I was extremely nervous. What if I couldn’t get lean enough? What if I couldn’t get comfortable with my posing? What if my c-section scar shows and affects my placing? What if I trip across the stage?! So many things ran through my mind and on many occasions, I honestly thought to myself, “What am I doing?!”

My youngest child is 4 and my oldest is 13 so I also had to answer a lot of questions, “Mom, why are you eating like that?” “Mom, why are you always at the gym?” There were times it was very tough to muster up the energy to get to the gym after being Mom all day and helping to run our businesses. Not to mention being on a calorie deficit! But, I pushed through and I am so happy and proud that I did! Getting up on that stage was such an adrenaline rush and it felt amazing! Finally reaching that goal and overcoming all of the obstacles I faced to get there made it all worth it! My kids came to the show and cheered me on which made it even more satisfying. Here are a few tips I learned over my 9-week prep that will hopefully help other moms out there who are considering a competition!

  • RELAX – This is the number one piece of advice I can offer anyone who is currently in competition prep or considering a prep. I worked it up in my head for so long that it really started to affect my moods and my outlook on the whole process. Stressing about your body, your posing, getting on stage, or anything else is only going to make it that much harder to get where you want to be! Stress can lead to loss of sleep and cortisol build up which in turn can make it even more difficult to lose body fat and accomplish your best package possible. Follow your diet, get your training in, listen to your body, and just trust the process! I promise you will get to where you want to be.
  • EMBRACE your “Imperfections” – I have had 3 c-sections as well as subsequent scar minimizing procedures so I was extremely self-conscious about my lower stomach, where my suit would lay, and letting anyone see what I thought was just a hideous scar! But let me fill you in on a little secret I learned… Every single lady who will be on stage with you also has some kind of internal issue with her body! Whether it’s stretch marks, scars, or other perceived imperfections; we all have them and at times we are all insecure about them. Learn to embrace your body and your differences. Those so called “imperfections” are what make us all unique and beautiful.
  • DON’T compare yourself to other women – Especially other competitors! I know I was guilty of obsessing over other competitor’s bodies on social media. I would say to myself, “I am not that lean or that tall” or “These girls are much younger than me and/or don’t have kids, how can I measure up?!” But another thing I learned is not to worry about other women. I am not in competition with them, I am in competition with myself! My goal was to be the best version of ME and that is exactly what I did! Don’t get me wrong, I still didn’t feel completely satisfied in my appearance but I think in a way that is a good thing. Always looking for ways to improve and bring your absolute best will only make you physically and mentally stronger.
  • TELL YOURSELF “I deserve this” – As a mother, we tend to think that doing anything for ourselves is almost a little selfish and takes something away from our families, am I right?! However, this couldn’t be any further from the truth. Spending hours in the gym each week, meal prepping, and the whole process in general does take a lot of time and energy. But keep in mind, it is only temporary. It is not going to hurt our children in any way to take some time to do something for ourselves! It is so very important to have an outlet, whatever that may be. It helps keep our sanity and it shows our children that it is ok to care about your appearance and your health! Setting a good example for our children is one of the best things we can do for them. So, if you have always dreamed or thought about competing but felt bad or guilty about taking that time for yourself, just DON’T. You are worth it and you and your family will be so proud of what you accomplished!

Off the Shoulder Tops for Spring

Alice & Olivia top // Jeans // Givenchy bag, I also love This bag for less  // Chanel Sunglasses (similar) // Aquazurra shoes (sold out) Similar style Here and Here // Choker // Necklace

I am so excited for Spring to finally be here! The weather in TN is so crazy we never know what we are going to get! This outfit is perfect for transitioning into spring. The top is light weight so it can be worn in cooler or warmer weather. I also love the fringe detail! In my opinion the top runs a little large so I bought an extra small.

I have posted about these jeans multiple times! They are simply my favorite white rips that I own! I pretty much live in them during transitional weather, until it gets too hot!

I have mentioned my new Jord wooden watch a few times also, I love it! It goes with anything! Use my code “agirlsabgdni” for $25 off! The code expires May 31.

Denim, Espadrilles, & Wood Watches – Spring Essentials

Distressed Denim Jacket // Satin Cami // Jeans // Shoes and similar Look for Less  // Necklace // Sunglasses – Similar style // Bag – Similar style and similar Look for Less // Wooden Watch (so unique and stylish!)

Hey guys! I am so excited to get back to blogging, it has been so sporadic lately because of my crazy schedule! The good news is it is feeling like spring already and I have been able to break out some of my cute spring looks! I love denim jackets. It took me a little while to get on board with this trend but now I am obsessed! This jacket has a distressed look which I love. I own a few different styles but this one from White House Black Market is probably my favorite! I love how they have designer pieces for a fraction of the price. Denim jackets look great with satin or silk camis and can be dressed up or down, worn with a dress, skirt, shorts, the possibilities are endless!

I love a good pair of espadrilles! They are so comfortable but so cute at the same time. These nude Valentinos are amazing!! They will definitely get a lot of wear this season! I actually found mine on Ebay, brand new for a lot less than retail! #winning 🙂 I found a very similar style for much less that I have linked as well for all my babes on a budget.

I have mentioned these jeans several times before but they are my absolute favorite pair of white denim that I own. I love ripped denim and this brand fits perfectly without losing its shape! They fit true to size.

Now can we talk about my watch? I am in love with this luxury wooden watch from Jord!! The look is so unique and chic! I had never seen a wooden watch until Jord reached out to me a couple of months ago and I am so glad they did! The quality is amazing and they come in several different styles and colors! Happy New Year!! It has been sooo long since I have posted! I really missed it! First of all I want to thank all of my readers and followers for all of the support in 2016. I have received overwhelming support, sweet comments, suggestions, and much more love than I ever imagined! When I started this venture early last year I never imagined how much I would love it or how satisfying it would be. Quite simply, I love fashion and I love to help and support others! As a very busy mother I love to get dressed up, put on makeup, and just feel good about myself. I also love to give others advice on their outfits, shoes, makeup, etc. Nothing makes me feel better or happier than for someone to come up to me and tell me they love my blog, my style, or my ideas. Its so humbling and amazing to me! I hope to expand my ideas and my blog in a big way in 2017, I have so many ideas and I am so excited about making this year the best ever!

Fall Flannel

facetune

Flannel Top (Comes in several colors) // Jeans // Necklace & Similar for less // Booties // YSL Bag // Bracelet

There is not much better than a flannel shirt! These have been in style off and on since I was a little girl and they are back right now in a big way! So many retailers carry these now and I love it! I mentioned in one of my last posts that Express has started carrying some amazing and very affordable pieces this season. I went a few years without paying much attention to their clothes because I though of them as more of a younger ladies’ style but not anymore! The quality of their pieces are great and you can’t beat the price! This top is so soft and comfortable I have literally lived in it the last month! It runs a little large, I bought an XS but typically I would wear a small in these types of tops.

I have also mentioned these jeans in a previous post. They are incredibly soft, comfy, and very reasonably priced. They hold their shape very well and don’t stretch out or sag throughout the day! These run true to size (i.e. size 25 is similar to a 2).
